UEFA released date to finish Champions league and Europa league

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin in his statement say that the Champions League and Europa League must be finished by 3rd August.

Football around the world has been cancelled due to the pandemic coronavirus and UEFA were forced to halt their tournaments till further notice.

Both the Europa League and Champions League have last-16 round games still to play and there has been discussions about holding a mini tournament to finish the competitions.

Ceferin has now detailed several different options and confirmed a new deadline for the tournaments to be completed.

‘It must finish by August 3, both the Champions League and Europa League,’ Ceferin said to the press.

‘We could play with the current system, or in one-off matches played on neutral turf. ‘For now, it’s just an option to play with a final eight or final four.

‘According to him, the only wrong decision we could make now would be to play in a way that puts the health and safety of players, fans and referees at risk. ‘However, if we are in secure conditions, then I don’t see the problem.

Bacary Sagna begs Arsenal to avoid Robin van Persie repeat with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. UEFA have since released a statement clarifying the Champions League would not be cancelled if the final could not take place by 3 August.

‘It has been reported that UEFA President, Aleksander Ceferin told ZDF in Germany that the UEFA Champions League must not pass by 3 August.

This is not true,’ the statement reads. ‘The President was very clear not to set exact dates for the end of the season.

‘UEFA is currently analysing all options to complete domestic and European seasons with the European Club Association and the European Leagues in the working group set up on 17 March. The primary priority of all the members of the working group is to preserve public health. Euro 2020 postponed over coronavirus.

‘Options are currently being studied to play matches in July and in August if needed, depending on restart dates and the permission of national authorities.’
